I can’t believe I wasn’t quick to put out this post!! Here are a few pics from Caribana which takes place in Toronto, Canada every year on the first Saturday in August. It is a time when the city comes alive with the influences of Caribbean culture. Caribbean food, music and most of all the costumes!! It has been quite a few years since I’ve played mas. For those who don’t know…”Mas, short for ‘masquerade’, means participants dress in costumes, masks and other disguises to dance through the parade route.” The costume band I was playing with was Saldenah and my section was called Sativa.
Mas originates from the 1800s with the emancipation of slavery in the Caribbean, and has developed to combine a variety of different influences. https://artsandculture.google.com
Here are a few pics of me on the parade route! Enjoy 🙂
