Last month, on May 16, 2022, the Juno Awards were back with a bang!! For those who don’t know, the JUNOS in Canada are the equivalent of the GRAMMY awards in the United States, where the top Canadian musicians are celebrated and honoured…and your girl was there in attendance! The highlight of the night was watching our Canadian Sweetheart, a woman that I deeply admire and respect for her hard work, dedication, and contribution to the R&B music scene in Canada..the Amazing Deborah Cox. There is nothing that pleases me more than supporting my fellow African-Canadian women, especially artists, as that’s what it’s all about…women supporting women! In her profound speech, Deborah Cox talked about her challenges as a Black woman in Canada, navigating the industry and that she wished she didn’t have to always rely on the United States to be recognized, Canada needs to step up in order to support R&B artists. The Grammy Award nominated, multi-platinum R&B/Pop recording artist is also a theater performer, which makes me love her even more! She originally played Whitney Houston’s role in the musical “The Bodyguard”. There is nothing that this African-Canadian star cannot do! Check out a couple pics from the night! Popular Canadian singer Shawn Mendes was also in attendance. The 2022 JUNOS were held at Budweiser Stage in Toronto, Canada.
