Women’s History Month

The celebrations continue and this month we are celebrating women! March 8th marked International Women’s Day. A day when women and girls around the world are recognized for their achievements – economically, politically and socially. However, it is also a day to acknowledge the disparities that exist; not only between men and women but also amongst women culturally across the globe. There are so many issues that need to be tackled and that is why a day of recognition is not enough…I gladly welcome the month…and beyond! This BBC News article reminds us that there continues to be millions of girls without access to an education, https://www.bbc.com/news/education-51769845. Often times these girls are married off at a young age, or forced to stay home to work for their families; moreover, they are seen as unworthy of an education simply because they were born the “wrong” gender. These ideologies need to change therefore, these conversations must be at the forefront.

In all that I do, I strive to empower women of all ages thus, I was elated when Pretty Women Hustle Magazine decided to feature me for Women’s History Month! Needless to say, I am honoured and humbled. Check out the article here: https://prettywomenhustleonline.com/2021/03/21/womens-history-month-feature-sharma-macdonald/

The theme of International Women’s Day this year was #ChooseToChallenge. I spoke about what this theme means to me as I was also invited to sit on a panel of amazing women for New Theory Radio, hosted by Nav Nanwa. It was a powerful conversation!
